Our First Three Years
- Dozens of live performances graced our stage, bringing such diverse acts as The Roche Sisters, Paul Winter, the Capitol Steps, a wildly popular evening of local and collegiate a cappella, folk and blues favorite David Bromberg, and Brattleboro perennials Nowell Sing We Clear, Windham Orchestra in sold-out performances for area school children, and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.
- A top-notch for-profit Latchis Corp. board was established to oversee the business aspects of the Project, helping to assure that the hotel and theatre businesses will continue to support themselves.
- Significant improvements to the fire protection system in the theaters were put in place; 100% of the building is now protected by the building’s sprinkler system.
- Hebe, the statue which greets all theater visitors, underwent extensive repairs by Walter Nicolai, master plaster sculptor.
- A restoration plan for the Main Theatre, which includes documenting the original decorative scheme, archival research and scientific analysis was commissioned and carried out by Evergreene Painting Studios, Inc.
- A Master Planning process was completed. After a search that brought master planning professionals from up and down the eastern seaboard, we chose a joint venture of architects Dan Scully of Keene, N.H. and Rick Monahon of Peterborough, N.H. These local talents covered the building from top to bottom and gave us in-depth analysis of its structure and condition. They convened focus groups and help public meetings, listening to our community and constituents describe their hopes and dreams for all things Latchis. They consulted with our friends at the Preservation Trust of Vermont. And as a result, we now have a complete and cohesive roadmap to guide us as we take on the challenges and joys of maintaining and enhancing this singular structure.
