BRATTLEBORO -- The Arts Council of Windham County’s annual "Friend of the Arts" award was presented to Gail Nunziata by Marie Procter, ACWC honorary trustee, on Oct. 22 as part of the ACWC annual meeting held at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center.
Nunziata was chosen to receive the award for her many contributions to the arts. She serves on the Alliance for the Arts steering committee and faithfully keeps AFTA members informed about up-coming arts events and opportunities for artists.
As managing director of Brattleboro Arts Initiative and Latchis Corporation, she is in an ideal position to champion the arts. She has been in charge of raising funds for the renovation and improvement of the Latchis Theater properties and has overseen a continual stream of cultural and artistic events offered at the theater.
She is a representative on the Town Art Committee, is a member of Building a Better Brattleboro and its design committee and acts as liaison for a public art partnership between the Arts Council of Windham County, the Town Arts Committee and Building a Better Brattleboro.
In addition to her many arenas of public service for the arts, Nunziata has been a member of the Brattleboro Concert Choir for many years and was a featured vocalist in the 2009 Brattleboro Sings benefit for the Vermont Jazz Center.
In her acceptance remarks, Nunziata spoke of arts activism and the particular responsibility it has assumed in
